"A 'high translucency' dominates the scene at the edge of the Pacific northwest sea."
Artist comment: "For as long as I have been seeing the sea, I have been fascinated by the translucent wave that builds at the crest of an incoming breaker. The water builds up thinner and thinner until the light from behind shines through like a stained glass window. Here I have reproduced on canvas with oil paint, that moment of breathtaking wonder. I paint the scenes where I live, so the water is very dark green and the translucency is yellow green. With the light from behind, the foam patterns remain in shadow with just the tops highlighted. Since the painting is so dramatic, I chose to introduce a little bit of life with a trio of 'M' birds in the distance."
