"The grey sky and gentle lapping of the waves upon a sandy beach, call us to come walk and ponder in the quietness of the day. In 'soft solitude' we are able to relax, refresh, and renew ourselves for times to come."
Artist comment: "We all enjoy the glorious sunny days at the edge of the sea, but there is a fascination to the overcast times, when rain threatens. Here the greyness of the weather has kept everyone off the beach. The surf is relatively quiet and any bird or animal has sought shelter. The moment is soft. The solitude complete. I used a monotone palette of grey-blue to emphasize the solitude. Even the whites are subdued. I painted the headlands and beach, then the sky and water. I finished with the swirls on the surface of the on-rushing water. I put a few dots of foam on the beach as the flow ebbs back out."
